Tips for an Unforgettable Trip

The Nantahala River is known far and wide for being one of the best whitewater experiences in the southeastern United States. Here are some tips to help make your experience on the river truly unforgettable.

  • Wear a lifejacket or personal floatation device at all times. Without exception, safety always comes first. Make sure that your lifejacket is fitted properly.
  • Work with licensed professional outfitters and guides. Licensed professionals know what they’re doing and it’s their job to keep you safe. Always listen to their advice and recommendations.
  • Wear all necessary protective equipment. The Nantahala’s rapids range from Class I to Class III, and the water is usually a bone-chilling 45 degrees. Make sure you have a helmet, wetsuit and splash jacket, as well as appropriate footwear.
  • Paddle as a team. Whether your group is traveling with a guide or not, rafting is a team sport. Remember to communicate with your crew to coordinate your actions.
  • Have fun!
